Kalka-Shimla railway line completes 115 years

Kalka-Shimla railway line completes 115 years: An engineering marvel, the heritage Kalka-Shimla Railway line today, has completed 115 years of existence. The rail network was started on 9 November1903, during the erstwhile Raj days, when Shimla was the Summer Capital of the Britishers. The objective was to link Shimla with the northern plains with rail connectivity.

Uttarakhand forest officers trained in willow cultivation HIMACHAL NEWS: SHIMLA To promote the adoption of Willow cultivation for its multifarious uses, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni provide training to the forest officers from the Uttarakhand Forest Department. One-day training on ‘Importance, cultivation and variety registration of willows (Salix species)’ was provided to the forest officials of Uttrakhand by the University’s Department of Tree Improvement and Genetic Resources (TIGR). A group of 10 Forest Range Officers, Van Darogas and an Assistant Conservator of Forests took part in the training that was sponsored by the Conservator of Forests, Research Circle Haldwani. Training coordinator Dr Jaipal Sharma explained that this was first training on a single tree species.
